Bulkachuwa Becomes Acting Appeal Court President


                            
Following the approval of Justice Zainab A. Bulkachuwa’s appointment as the Acting President of the Court of Appeal by President Goodluck Jonathan the chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Maryam Aloma Muktar will this morning swear her in.

In a press statement signed on behalf of the national judicial council (NJC) by the deputy director of information said that Jonathan’s approval followed the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC).
Soji said the appointment of Justice Dalhatu Adamu as Acting President of the Court of Appeal expires tomorrow today, November23, 2012.
Justice Dalhatu Adamu was confirmed acting Appeal Court president following the suspension of the Court of Appeal president, Justice Isa Ayo Salami on August 20, 2011.
President Jonathan had also confirmed re-appointment of Justice Adamu for five times which had run contrary to the spirit of the constitution.
By this appointment of Justice Bulkachuwa who is next most senior to Justice Adamu may be renewed in the next three month pending the reinstatement of Justice Salami.
Justice Bukachawa will, however, be sworn-in today by the CJN  who doubles as the NJC chairman at the Supreme Court
Meanwhile, the CJN will also swear-in Justice Ifeoma Jombo-Ofo in the Supreme Court concurrently with Justice Bulkachuwa.
NJC had on Wednesday directed the CJN to swear-in Justice Ifeoma Jombo-Ofo as a Justice of the Court of Appeal.
The development came when the council held an emergency meeting in response to the public outcry against the CJN’s refusal to swear-in Jombo-Ofo on November 5, 2012.
